  • bark pattern and texture
  • leaf type and arrangement
  • canopy shape
  • branch growth and structure

Reaching around an oak tree

"When living in times of stress, there is something very satisfying about standing in front of a tree that has been growing for more than a hundred years. To study it's leaves, the pattern of its bark and to learn a little more about it - this seems like a good thing to do"

CONNECTION = CONSERVATION

Having a connection to the natural world is essential to any activity surrounding conservation. It is only through our experience of place, and an awareness of species that we understand the value of knowing the world outside. There are many benefits to connecting with nature - not only does it improve our own health but it ensures that we protect local ecosystems for generations to come. The following video is part of a series focused on protecting a segment of shoreline from being hardening with armour stone. The beach is on the north shore of Lake Ontario, in the east of Toronto.
RELAXATION
The benefits of listening to sounds of nature has been widely accepted as being restorative. To hear waves washing along a natural sand beach can provide the same benefit as if we were right there walking barefoot in the sand. The iconic sound profile of repeating waves is easily recognized by all. It creates a deep sense of calm and without even realizing it, we begin to match our breathe to the rhythm and we begin to relax while it slows our heart rate. This video along with many others on my Nature Studio YT Channel has been created for the express purpose of providing relaxation. This original recording is a section of beach on the north shore of Lake Ontario, in east Toronto.
